What is WMEMS?

(Western Monmouth Emergency Medical Services)

The Englishtown Manalapan First Aid Squad has formed a third party entity created to support our volunteer members in their continued service to our community. "Western Monmouth Emergency Medical Services, Inc." (WMEMS) and began operations on May 15, 2015. WMEMS is a licensed Basic Life Support agency with the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. WMEMS will bill our patient’s insurance carriers to redeem the BLS Ambulance transportation fee reimbursement as provided by law.

WMEMS was created to support the volunteer first aid squad. Increasing costs of providing emergency medical services to our community had created a burden on the squad. In addition squad volunteer membership had slowed due to the economic climate. WMEMS has provided the squad with an exceptional group of per-diem Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to assist staffing our ambulances especially during the daytime hours when volunteer members are not available. WMEMS also relieves our governing bodies from costs that they were paying to support our volunteer first aid squad; these cost savings are estimated to be in the neighborhood of $250,000.00 per year. These costs include new ambulances, vehicle insurance, annual donation and funding of the volunteer squad’s LOSAP program.

WMEMS also has increased the level of services provided by our emergency medical services team in the areas of enhanced training, reduced response times and providing high quality emergency medical services to our community.

New changes that have taken place since WMEMS has been formed is enhanced medical equipment. Our ambulances will be carrying pulse oximetry units, Aspirin for cardiac emergencies, Epinephrine for severe allergic reactions, C-PAP oxygen delivery for acute respiratory emergencies and Narcan for opiate overdoses.

You will also notice that our emergency services teams are using computer based patient care reports. We have replaced paper run sheets with computerized run sheets. Our crews will be asking for your insurance information for the billing aspect of our service. All of the information provided to the crews and WMEMS are protected under the various HIPPA regulations. If insurance information is not available at the time of your emergency our billing provider will reach out to you for that information. WMEMS will accept assignment from the insurance company and does not seek to impose any financial hardship among our community members. If you have any concerns about WMEMS you can contact our president via e-mail at president@emfas.org and questions for our management team can be referred to management@wmems.com.
